COVID-19 Response

Good evening Hampton Roads,

By now your news feed is saturated with Covid-19 posts and while some of you may be trying to absorb any information possible , I know a lot of you are frankly sick of it. I’m going to make this simple and to the point.

As veterinarians we are in a unique position to understand the way infectious diseases can be spread and the importance of initiating proper protocols to avoid becoming part of the problem. Although Covid-19 is a novel virus, we are acquainted with coronavirus and viruses in general. We are fortunate to have one of the most knowledgeable leaders on avian influenza on our team. Although a different virus , it is still a virus and much of the protocols remain the same.

I believe our responsibility is to be pro- active rather than reactive at this time. Now, by no means are we suggesting being alarmists or shutting things down, but I believe operating as “ business is usual” would be irresponsible.

We remain committed to our patients and the families that adore them. However, we will be initiating a set of safety measures to protect you as well as our doctors when we enter your homes. We would like to ask for your help to make sure this is possible.

Upon making an appointment – a set of questions will be asked concerning the health status and recent travel of all family members in the household – please answer honestly. Care will not be denied but additional measures may be taken to protect everyone. 

• telehealth for prospective patients and telemedicine for current patients will be available . While we can not provide medical advice or give prescriptions for non- established patients. Quality of life discussions and general questions can be answered to help determine the need for assistance. These will be able to be done in the comfort of your home on any android or apple device.
• Should an in home visit be needed, our veterinarians are trained and will be equipped with appropriate safety and protective attire to avoid the spread of the virus.  Please understand that even if everyone is healthy in your home, we may still need to initiate these protocols to protect your family from an introduction of external contaminants when we enter.
• Lastly …. many of you who have used us.. have received that deep tight hug, warm handshake  that only comes when an incredibly painful and important moment is shared. We may no longer be able to share a hug, please accept a bow, words to convey how much we care and you mean.
• It is our responsibility to protect those in our community most vulnerable to this disease.
